Minutes of the East Yorkshire
Ranger Council meeting
held on Tuesday 26th June 2001 at Paull
Units present :
Driffield, Holderness, Wolfreton
Apologies for absence : Brough/Elloughton
Matters arising from the last meeting The Ranger Council
Constitution was briefly discussed after being looked at by the
chair before the meeting. It was found that one adult should be
present for advisory purposes.
Foot and mouth (D of E expeditions) Joy Thompson,
the D of E adviser, reported that no expeditions are allowed to
take place and as a result of this everyone now has until the
age of 26 to complete the Duke of Edinburgh awards.
Future events : Future events suggested for
this summer included gliding which seemed very popular and potholing
which was fairly unpopular. The lightweight training camp, which
is normally held in July, will now be held in Sept/Oct probably
in Beverley. It will probably not be a camping event. These changes
are also due to foot and mouth.
It was decided that we would like to organise some county events.
The idea of a day at Barton doing water sports was very popular.
This is now being organised. It is likely to happen on a Saturday
in September. We will try to get details out to everyone as soon
as possible.
We would like to make it a senior section, not just a Ranger event.
The ideas of staying in the camping barn in Dalby Forest and of
a Dutch Dash or similar event were also suggested as possible
county events. The Dutch Dash was suggested for February half-term
and the camping barn for Easter time.
Silly Chilly will be held again next spring.
In April the Commissioner's Challenge event will be held. This
will involve such events as survival cooking.
Service Teams : From 4th - 10th August 2001,
Unite 2001 is being held at Raywell. It is an international event
for Scouts and Guides aged between 10 and 16 years. If anyone
is interested in being part of the service team contact Pam Greaves.
In 2002 Flight is being held from 3rd to 10th August also at Raywell
(Guideacres). Anyone interested in being a part of the service
team for this event should contact Sue Whittleton .
Next meeting : The next Ranger Council meeting
will be the AGM. It will be held in Willerby on Friday 26 October
at 8pm. For details of how to get there contact Sue Whittleton
. We would greatly appreciate a good turn out as everyone seemed
very interested in pursuing the idea of activities on a county
level, as some Ranger Units are quite small. We acknowledge that
communication needs to be improved as people often find out about
the meetings at very short notice. In order to try to solve this
problem an email list was started which will be sent to everyone
on the email list. To obtain a copy of this list or to join it
contact Frances
Thompson .
AOB If anyone wants details about service
projects or D of E please contact Joy Thompson.
